The Frying Squad’s famous van plays host to Big Zuu and Jimmy Carr
When the Dave TV channel approached The Frying Squad about providing catering facilities for their new comedy/dining project Big Zuu’s Big Eats we gobbled up the chance. Especially as the first guest was the legendary Jimmy Carr ahead of his sell-out show at Croydon’s Fairfield Halls.
UKTV’s award-winning comedy and entertainment channel Dave recently commissioned popular grime rapper Big Zuu to front his own cooking and comedy series, feeding comics from his food truck. Or rather, from ours! And the results have been hilarious.
With his trusty wingmen Hyder and Tubsey (pictured left and right by his side), Big Zuu knows that impressing the sharp-tongued funny man might be the ideal way to make sure his reputation spreads throughout the comedy circuit.
Cooking for a part-time vegan
But it presented a big challenge for our big man as Jimmy is an anomaly when it comes to food. A part-time vegan but with a lust for dirty fast food, the challenge was also to find dishes inventive enough to meet with his approval.
So a trip to a vegan café provided inspiration for a Seitan kebab, while a truffle-hunting expedition seemed perfect to appeal to Carr’s taste for luxury.
The partnership of this naturally funny host with some of Britain’s finest funnymen and women, and the Frying Squad’s super reliable Citroen HY van which enabled the team to cook up some impressive menus… and some big belly laughs!

Before making his name as a grime artist, Zuu worked the grill at a branch of Nando’s but it was there that he developed his passion for food which has endured ever since.
